John E. Grimes: February 3, 1946 to August 8, 2013
John Grimes, timpanist, musicians' advocate, beloved brother, cousin, uncle, and friend passed away August 8, 2013 after a four-year battle with liver cancer. During his final days, he was surrounded by family and friends.
The Boston Globe ran an obituary on August 11, 2013, which can be read here, along with a guestbook.
A memorial service, at which many of the best musicians in the Boston area performed, was held at Old South Church in Boston, on Monday, October 7, 2013.
His family and friends have requested that his website remain online as a tribute to John's life and accomplishments. We will continue to update it, and add pictures and links to various aspects of John's life as they become available.
John provided in his will for the creation of a percussion scholarship through the Percussive Arts Society, to help a deserving percussion student study in Europe each year.
